Apple Maps on the web is no longer in beta, now available on Android devices

Last year, Apple launched a beta version of Apple Maps on the web, giving Windows users a chance to try out the company’s navigation service. Now, it looks like the web version of Apple Maps is no longer in beta. Instead of “beta.maps.Apple.com”, users will now have to head over to “maps.Apple.com” to use the mapping service on the web.

The web version of Apple Maps was previously limited to desktop and Chrome and Edge for Windows, but now it looks like it works with iPhone and Android as well.

Considering Apple Maps is already available as an app on iPhone and the iPad, this won’t come as a surprise to most Apple users, but the added Android compatibility means millions of people will now be able to try the Google Maps alternative.

Like most mapping services, the web version of Apple Maps lets you search for businesses, points of interest, look for directions to a location and view Guides. However, some advanced features like transit maps and 3D buildings are still missing. Also, the web version of the service does not allow users to sign in to their Apple account to quickly view saved places.

Another thing to note here is that unlike Google Maps, Apple Maps has less business listings and sometimes, it also gets the name of the road wrong, which hints that the service still has a long way to go before it emerges as a Google Map competitor.
