Six Bangladeshis and three Indian human traffickers arrested in Tripura

Six Bangladeshi citizens and three Indian human traffickers were arrested from three places in Tripura in the past 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday.

In one case, the arrested accused was identified as Jakir Hussain, a resident of Dhanpur in Sonamura of Sepahijala district.

“We arrested an Indian tout from the Agartala railway station. He used to help those who came here by crossing the international border and were trying to move to other states. He even arranged food and shelter for them. We arrested him and forwarded to the court,” Tapash Das, the officer in charge of the Agartala Government Railway Police, told reporters.

Das added that Jakir Hussain had been wanted for a long time and that the police were checking with different police stations to see if he had any involvement in any other cases.

In the preliminary interrogation, he revealed information about a few people, the officer said. “We are checking those names. We have shared the information with the BSF and other sister agencies. We will identify and bring them to justice,” Das added.

Later, three Bangladeshis were arrested from Jakir Hussain’s home at Baidyanath in Dhanpur panchayat, Sepahijala, along with two drums containing cannabis.

“We rushed to the spot based on secret information. After going there, we found three Bangladeshi nationals. As they failed to show valid documents and give reasons for entering India, we arrested them. After searching the room, we found two drums of cannabis and seized them immediately. We lodged a case against them at a police station,” said a police official.
